GDA Teddy Bear Hearing Aid Clinic
Saturday 1 August 2026
Bring a favourite teddy along for a fun-filled day of play, creativity and celebration at the Teddy Bear Clinic, taking place at Gloucestershire Deaf Association in Gloucester on Saturday 1 August 2026.
Created in partnership with Toy Like Me, this welcoming event has been specially designed for Deaf and CODA children and their families. Through imaginative play and interactive activities, children can celebrate Deaf identity, build confidence and enjoy spending time with other families in an inclusive and supportive environment.
At the heart of the event is the magical Bear Ear Clinic, where children can bring along their favourite teddy or soft toy for a fun roleplay experience. Every child will also receive a toy hearing device to take home, helping to celebrate hearing technology through play.
Families can also enjoy a British Sign Language storytelling session of Can Bears Ski? by Raymond Antrobus and Polly Dunbar, alongside a wide range of creative activities throughout the day.
Activities include:
- Teddy Bear Clinic roleplay experience (bring a favourite teddy or soft toy)
- Decorate toy hearing aids, cochlear implants or BAHA devices
- BSL storytelling of Can Bears Ski?
- Colouring competition with prizes and artwork display
- "See It Be It" lotto game celebrating Deaf adults and careers
- Stay and play with Deaf-friendly toys, LEGO, dolls and games
- Cosy reading and storytelling spaces
- Opportunities to meet and connect with other families
Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Families with children of different ages should book according to the age of the Deaf or hard of hearing child. All sessions operate on a drop-in basis during the allocated time slot.
The event welcomes children with all levels of hearing loss, including temporary hearing loss, and supports total communication, ensuring every child can take part in the way that works best for them.
