English Symphony Orchestra: Portraits and Landscapes

Portraits and Landscapes opens the English Symphony Orchestra season at Cheltenham Town Hall with a vibrant evening of music inspired by humanity's deep spiritual connection to the natural world.
Conducted by Kenneth Woods, with cellist Joely Koos, the concert brings together musical portraits of composers, creators, friends and family alongside landscapes, mindscapes and seascapes inspired by nature.
The programme includes:
- Mendelssohn – Hebrides Overture
- Dvořák – Silent Woods
- Smetana – Vltava from Má vlast
- Ethel Smyth – The Wreckers
- Sibelius – Symphony No. 2
ESO Insights
Ticket holders can arrive early at 6.30pm for the launch of the new ESO Insights series. Zeb Soanes, Classic FM presenter, will be joined in conversation by Kenneth Woods, ESO Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, and soloist Joely Koos.
The pre-concert event offers an opportunity to discover the stories behind the music and gain a fascinating insight into the evening's performance. ESO Insights is free to concert ticket holders.
