English Symphony Orchestra: Renewal and Celebration

English Symphony Orchestra: Renewal and Celebration brings an uplifting programme of music to Cheltenham Town Hall, exploring themes of hope, optimism and creative renewal.
Conducted by Jac van Steen and featuring violinist Zoë Beyers, the concert opens with Elgar's In the South, his vivid and expansive tone poem inspired by Italy.
Korngold's Violin Concerto follows, written after the end of the Second World War as the composer returned to concert music following years working in Hollywood. Rich in melody and colour, it has become one of Korngold's most celebrated works.
After the interval, the orchestra performs Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Written following a period of profound personal crisis, the symphony moves from struggle towards an exhilarating and triumphant conclusion.
