The Friends of Gloucester Cathedral welcome Sharon Griffiths to present “The Long Man”: How Edward Jenner and Others Contributed to Modern Science, exploring the stories of John Hunter, the father of modern surgery, Edward Jenner, the father of modern medicine, and the mysterious character known as the ‘Long Man’.
The talk will reveal how their lives, work and discoveries connect, and the important contributions they made to the development of modern science and medicine.
Sharon recently retired after 45 years in the NHS, where she practised and lectured in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging, bringing a wealth of experience to this intriguing exploration of medical history and scientific discovery.
The Friends of Gloucester Cathedral are a community dedicated to supporting the Cathedral and preserving its rich heritage for future generations. Through membership, fundraising and a programme of events, the Friends provide valuable support towards the Cathedral's ongoing work, care and conservation.
