Severn Bore: 3-Star Nightime Bore

Wednesday 8 October 2025

Experience the Spectacular Severn Bore – 3-Star Tidal Wave

This year, due to natural tidal cycles, the Severn Bore will reach heights of up to 2 metres on select dates. The Severn Bore Wave Rating provides insight into the best times to witness this powerful tidal surge.

The Severn Bore can best be seen along the northern side of the River Severn, first passing Newnham on Severn (The White Hart Inn at Broadoak), then making its way to the Severn Bore Inn, Minsterworth Church, Stonebench, Over Bridge, and finally Maisemore Bridge.

Best Viewing Areas for the Severn Bore – Wednesday 8 October

📍 21.46pm – Minsterworth – Located 4 miles from Gloucester along the A48, this is one of the best places to experience the bore.

📍 22.01pm – Stonebench3 miles from Gloucester along the B4008. Turn right into Elmore Lane, cross the ship canal, and the River Severn is ahead.

  • Be aware that this area can become congested, and after the bore passes, the rising river level may flood onto the road. Take caution.

📍 22.21pm – Over Bridge – Just 1 mile out of Gloucester along the A40, this spot provides a convenient viewing location to watch the bore’s final approach before it fades due to the weirs near the city.
