Cloister Challenge Sleep-out Celebrates Fifth Year at Gloucester Cathedral

Cloister Challenge Sleep-out Celebrates Fifth Year at Gloucester Cathedral

Gloucester’s annual Cloister Challenge event returns to the Cathedral on 20 March 2020 marking its fifth anniversary raising money for the homeless and vulnerable.

The Cloister Challenge raises much needed funds for local homeless charities each year. Organisers of the 2020 event are delighted that all sleep-out spaces have been booked in record time.

The Cloister Challenge committee, part of the charity 'HaVinG', works in partnership with the Cathedral to provide those who take part with a snapshot of the challenges homeless people face, experiencing a night on the stone floor of Gloucester Cathedral’s cloister.

The event is now an annual inclusion in the Cathedral’s social responsibility programme. Canon Andrew Braddock, Chair of the Cathedral’s Social Responsibility Group said “Once again the Cloister Challenge will bring together people of all ages to raise both awareness and money to help support those in need.  We are delighted and proud of the sense of community the event creates and the generosity of all involved”

The past four events have raised just over £33,000 in total and awards have been made to a number of charities in the City including Gloucester City Mission, the Cathedral Breakfast Club, the Salvation Army and the Foodbank.

Donations can be made directly to the Cloister Challenge via the event webpage so even those who aren’t sleeping out in the Cloister can still support homeless people in the City.

The fifth Cloister Challenge takes place on Friday 20 March 2020, to join the waiting list to take part and for more information on how to donate to support the event click on the link below.
