Head Gardener’s Highlights
Discover the beauty of February in the Cotswolds with expert guidance from the Head Gardener, highlighting the top sights of the month. Perfect for those looking for things to do in the Cotswolds, great days out in Gloucestershire, or a memorable day in nature, these highlights offer something for everyone, especially gardening enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Along Her Ladyship’s Walk, the entrance path to the stunning arboretum, visitors can enjoy the early spring border, abundant with Hellebores, Snowdrops, Cyclamen, and Winter Aconites. This picturesque path provides an ideal setting for a peaceful walk while taking in the first signs of spring.

During February, Snowdrops will be in full bloom, creating dramatic displays along the stream and throughout the arboretum. As the month progresses, they will become even more prominent, offering a captivating sight. Crocus flowers will also begin to bloom, presenting shades of pink, purple, white, and orange across the landscape.

For those with a love for fragrance, the Daphne odora x bholua ‘Perfume Princess’ and Daphne bholua fill the air with their sweet scent in multiple areas of the arboretum. Lonicera standishii (Standish’s Honeysuckle) and Chimonanthus praecox (Wintersweet) offer a more delicate fragrance, perfect for visitors seeking a serene experience in nature.

Witch Hazel (Hamamelis) will also be in full flower, with its delicate red, yellow, and orange blossoms and subtle fragrance brightening even the dullest days. Meanwhile, early flowering daffodils, including the bright January Gold and the white and yellow Spring Dawn, will begin to bloom, marking the arrival of spring.

These stunning garden features are perfect for gardeners, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a peaceful, memorable day out. Visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty of Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds, making it an ideal winter destination for those looking to explore the season's natural wonders.
