Spring at Gloucester Cathedral

Discover the Craftsmanship and Traditions of Gloucester Cathedral This Spring
This spring, Gloucester Cathedral invites visitors to experience the heritage and craftsmanship that have shaped this iconic landmark over the centuries. From hands-on workshops to immersive Easter celebrations, the cathedral offers a unique opportunity to explore its rich history in a truly interactive way.
The cathedral's Stained Glass Making Workshops, led by experienced local stained glass artist Cathy Steed, provides a full-day, hands-on experience in the medieval Learning Hub. Ideal for beginners, this workshop offers participants the chance to learn the art of leaded stained glass, creating their own stained glass panel inspired by the shields in the cathedral’s famous Great East Window. Attendees will learn essential techniques and discover the artistry that has adorned the cathedral for centuries.
For those interested in stonework, the Stone Carving Workshops with award-winning stone carver Deb Harrison offers a unique chance to design and carve a relief tile. Taking place in the medieval Learning Hub, this four-hour session allows participants to use techniques that were employed 1,000 years ago in the building of the cathedral. No prior experience is necessary, making this workshop suitable for all skill levels.
In addition to these workshops, Gloucester Cathedral is celebrating the season with a special Medieval Easter Celebration. Visitors can step back in time to explore the traditions of medieval and monastic Easters through engaging, hands-on activities and immersive experiences. The Easter Trail offers a fun and educational adventure for families, with egg-shaped clues hidden throughout the cathedral, leading to key points of interest and celebrating the season of light and new life.
These events provide an exciting opportunity to connect with the craftsmanship and traditions that have shaped the cathedral for over a thousand years. Whether creating stained glass, carving stone, or discovering medieval Easter traditions, there is something for everyone to enjoy this spring at Gloucester Cathedral.
