A Bright future for Gloucester Antiques Centre

Gloucester Antiques Centre

Press Release - 28 November 2006

Gloucester Antiques Centre Limited, recently acquired by new owners Evan Maindonald and Raine Thurston, is now going through the implementation of an ambitious set of plans for improvements and changes at the Centre.

In addition to the removal of the weekend entry charge, the new owners have established a programme of professional marketing and promotion to increase the profile of the Antiques Centre as a destination for tourists and shoppers. They also plan to undertake a programme of decorative refurbishment at the centre in order to “smarten up the image of the centre” as Mr Maindonald puts it.

The acquisition brings new investment and fresh ideas to the management of Gloucester Antiques Centre. Evan Maindonald, Managing Director of Gloucester Antiques Centre, commented, Gloucester Antiques Centre is one of the longest established antiques and collectibles centre in the UK, and has incredible pedigree. We plan to make the most of its potential and have a number of ideas to grow the business and improve trade. Our aim is to bring a breath fresh air to the business and the building.”

Mr Maindonald then went on to say ”We are starting by removing the weekend door charge at the centre. Now there’s another great reason to visit. Our new web site is up and running at www.gacl.co.uk. All five floors containing 20,000 square feet of retail space are open, selling items from over 140 individual dealers. The Centre is packed with antiques and collectibles of all descriptions. We also have a café serving delicious food, which is a great place to relax, have a bite to eat and enjoy a cup of tea or a cappuccino”.
Raine Thurston added “With Christmas just around the corner, there is no better time to visit Gloucester Antiques Centre for unusual or unique gifts. If you are struggling to find the right present, why not buy one of our gift vouchers. And now the door charge has been removed, there’s every reason to visit the Centre at any time”.
Other plans include a programme of staff training to improve customer service within the centre, and the introduction of Gloucester Antiques Centre Limited “workwear” for staff, so they can easily be identified by shoppers at the centre. The new owners also intend to streamline and improve business processes to increase efficiency through the use of technology. There are over 140 individual dealers at Gloucester Antiques Centre selling furniture, porcelain and glassware, fine silver, jewellery, cards, stamps, toys, linen and fabrics, clocks and much more.

Gloucester Antiques Centre is open:

Monday to Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday from 1 - 5pm
and is located at 1 Severn Road, Gloucester, GL1 2LE in the heart of Gloucester docks.
