Star-Studded Murder Mystery ‘Murder at Midnight’ Comes to Cheltenham

Murder at Midnight Everyman Thaeatre

Murder at Midnight: World Premiere at the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham This September

Murder at Midnight, the brand-new comedy thriller by acclaimed playwright Torben Betts, is set to make its world premiere at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham from 23–27 September 2025, as part of its highly anticipated UK tour.

Presented by Original Theatre in association with Joshua Beaumont and Huw Allen, this gripping and darkly comic murder mystery follows the nationwide success of Betts’ Murder in the Dark. Directed by Philip Franks, the production boasts a star-studded cast including Jason Durr (Heartbeat, Casualty), Susie Blake (Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV, Coronation Street), Max Bowden (EastEnders), and Katie McGlynn (Coronation Street, Hollyoaks).

The plot unfolds on New Year’s Eve in a quiet Kentish home, where notorious gangster Jonny ‘The Cyclops’, his glamorous wife, an eccentric cast of characters and a clown-costumed burglar find themselves caught in a tangled web of secrets, lies, and a midnight murder. Packed with razor-sharp dialogue, a suitcase of cash, and a stash of deadly weapons, Murder at Midnight is a high-stakes whodunnit with a wicked sense of humour.

Joining the headline cast are Callum Balmforth, Peter Moreton, Iryna Poplavska, Bella Farr, and Andy McLeod. The 2025 tour will be the only opportunity to see Max Bowden in his role as Paul.

The creative team includes Designer Colin Falconer, Lighting Designer Jason Taylor, Sound Designer and Composer Max Pappenheim, with casting by Ellie Collyer-Bristow. The production also features expert fight choreography by Ruth Cooper-Brown and Carlotta De Gregori for Rc-Annie.

With a run of national venues confirmed into 2026, Murder at Midnight promises a thrilling night of unexpected twists and darkly comic turns. Audiences in Cheltenham are invited to experience the mystery first, before it embarks on its wider UK tour.

“One house. Seven suspects. And a murder at midnight…”
