Discover Art Differently at Nature in Art, Gloucestershire

Totally Tactile Exhibition at Nature in Art

Totally Tactile Exhibition Encourages Visitors to Experience Art Differently

An alternative approach to art is arriving this autumn at Nature in Art, Wallsworth Hall, Gloucester, as Totally Tactile invites visitors to explore creativity in a hands-on way. Running from 16 September to 19 October 2025, open 10am–5pm, Tuesday to Sunday (including Bank Holidays), this fully tactile exhibition encourages audiences to interact directly with artworks through touch.

From smooth wood to cool metal, from lifelike animal forms to bold abstract interpretations, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience art beyond sight. Sighted visitors will be asked to wear blindfolds, allowing them to slow down and truly appreciate the textures and forms in front of them, while gaining fresh insight into how visually impaired visitors experience art.

A blend of pieces from Nature in Art’s main collection, reference library, and specially loaned works will be on display. Exploring an object exclusively through touch can provide a new level of appreciation, while fostering empathy and understanding towards alternative ways of engaging with art.

Art for Every Sense
Totally Tactile marks the launch of the Art for Every Sense project, supported by Museum Development South West and Arts Council England. The initiative aims to make Nature in Art more accessible for blind and visually impaired audiences.

As part of this project, the museum has been developing audio descriptions for thousands of objects in its permanent collection, alongside 3D models and high-contrast images. At least 15 objects with audio commentary will be available on display at any given time.

Visitors are advised to call ahead to reserve one of the limited number of audio guides and tablets available for use during their visit.

Whether you’re looking for inspiring things to do in Gloucester, or exploring the best exhibitions in Gloucestershire, Totally Tactile offers a unique cultural experience this autumn.
