A magical festive treat is coming to Cheltenham as the renowned Mozart Symphony Orchestra brings The Snowman and The Gruffalo in Concert to Cheltenham Town Hall for one day only on .
Audiences will enjoy Raymond Briggs’ classic animated film The Snowman accompanied live by the full orchestra while the movie plays on the big screen. Sixteen-year-old Alice Mackenzie, in her tenth appearance with the orchestra, performs the beloved song Walking in the Air, made famous by Aled Jones more than 40 years ago.
First broadcast in 1982, The Snowman became an instant success and remains a family favourite. As The Times noted, “You would be hard pushed to find a more magical Christmas experience.”
The concert also features The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child with narration and orchestra, accompanied by Axel Scheffler’s illustrations on the big screen. Composer Philip Mackenzie represents each character with distinctive orchestral colours—from piccolo and cor anglais to contrabassoon and French horn.
With performances worldwide, the Mozart Symphony Orchestra’s family concerts are known for creativity and joy. The Snowman and The Gruffalo in Concert promises an unforgettable afternoon of live music and storytelling for all ages.
