First look at A Christmas Carol at the Barn Theatre for Christmas 2025

The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has unveiled its cast and creative team for this year’s major festive production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. As one of the standout Christmas events in the Cotswolds, the show is already drawing huge attention and is expected to be a go-to highlight of the Cirencester Christmas calendar, bringing classic storytelling, seasonal magic and family tradition together under one roof.

CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis, Executive Director Liam McMullan, and the full Barn Theatre team are delighted to showcase this atmospheric adaptation, running from Monday 1 December to Sunday 4 January. The production promises an uplifting and immersive retelling of Dickens’ timeless tale, capturing all the warmth, spirit and festive feeling that audiences look for in a Christmas show.

The show stars Jack Lord (The Book Thief, Prince of Wales Theatre; War Horse, National Theatre Tour) as ‘Scrooge’, Paul Kemble (Top Hat, The Mill at Sonning; To The Streets, China Plate and the Birmingham Hippodrome) as ‘Narrator 4’, ‘Fezziwig’ and ‘Bob Cratchit’, Sam Lightfoot-Loftus (Twelfth Night, Stafford Gatehouse; Wishmas, Secret Cinema) as ‘Narrator 5’, ‘Fred’ and ‘Young Scrooge’, and Louise Faulkner (Eastenders, BBC; Lady Windermere’s Fan, BKL) as ‘Narrator 1’, ‘Mrs Cratchit’ and ‘Mrs Fezziwig’. They are joined by Rachael Kendall Brown (Get Down Tonight, ATG Productions; Where Eagles Fly, Irish Musicals & GFD Promotions) as ‘Narrator 3’ and ‘Belle’, and Claire Lee Shenfield (Little Women, UK Tour; A Christmas Carol, Derby Theatre) as ‘Narrator 2’ and ‘Fan’.

Adapted by Alan Pollock, this production will be directed by Jessica Daniels with set and costume design by Anna Kelsey, lighting design by Jodie Underwood, sound design, composition and musical direction by Anna Pool, movement direction by Phoebe Hyder and casting by Anthony Houghton.

With its enchanting score, atmospheric staging and heartfelt performances, this revival of A Christmas Carol is set to deliver the ultimate feel-good festive experience. Audiences can expect a powerful journey through Christmas past, present and future, capturing the heart of Dickens’ message - a reminder of kindness, generosity and second chances at the most magical time of the year.

Christmas simply would not be complete without a little "Bah, humbug!" - and a visit to Cirencester’s award-winning Barn Theatre. This uplifting festive tradition promises warmth, wonder and plenty of Christmas spirit, making it one of the top things to do in the Cotswolds this December and January.

Barn Theatre’s CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis and Executive Director and Producer Liam McMullan said, "We’re delighted to be bringing Alan Pollock’s brilliant adaptation of A Christmas Carol back to the Barn this festive season. With Jess Daniels’ inspired direction, this timeless story will be reimagined with the heart, humour and magic that make Christmas at the Barn so special."

The Barn Theatre is an award-winning producing-house in the heart of the Cotswolds, on a mission to inspire communities and champion the power of storytelling.
