British Big Cats Art and Science Exhibition Coming to the Forest of Dean
British Big Cats – The Art & The Science Comes to Dean Heritage Centre in Spring 2026
British Big Cats – The Art & The Science will be at Dean Heritage Centre from 2 April to 4 May 2026, bringing together art, science and first-hand investigation to explore the growing evidence of big cats living in Britain.
With evidence from DNA analysis and tooth marks found on animal bones, British big cats are increasingly emerging from myth into reality. This exhibition and programme of events invite visitors to learn more about these elusive creatures, believed to be once-discarded exotic pets that have become stealthy deer stalkers in Britain’s forests.
The gallery will showcase artwork depicting black panthers, lynx and pumas as described by witnesses, while the Centre’s grounds will host a range of creative and educational activities. Visitors can take part in art, craft, tracking and science sessions designed to shed light on Britain’s big cat mystery.
The event will feature input from visiting artists, big cat witnesses and investigators from across the region, alongside a research briefing from the Royal Agricultural University. Experts will be on hand throughout the exhibition to discuss tracks, signs and reported encounters.
Over the May Bank Holiday weekend from 2 to 4 May, mural artist Rob Amos will be producing British big cat artwork live at the Centre. Local artists and craft specialists are also invited to contribute their own Dean Panthers during the exhibition period.
Local artists or craftworkers interested in getting involved are encouraged to contact the event curator, Rick Minter, via email at rick@bigcatconversations.com.
