Poetry Cafe launched at Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum

Poetry Cafe launched at Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum

Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum is running a free, monthly poetry event, starting this week.

Thursday 17 September is the launch of Poetry Café; a regular live arts event which will feature the work of both acclaimed and new poets. In the relaxed and inspiring atmosphere of the gallery's café, visitors will be able to enjoy hearing poets read and talk about their work and even take to the mic themselves!

This months Poetry Café features the work of Angela France and Brenda Read-Brown.

Angela France has published poems in many of the leading journals in the UK and abroad. She runs a regular live poetry event ‘Buzzwords’ and is an editor of the poetry journal ‘Iota’. She has just completed an MA in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of Gloucestershire.  Angela will be reading from her second collection ‘Occupation’ (Ragged Raven Press).

Brenda Read-Brown is a slam champ who is re-known for her wry and witty observations on life, all performed with great gusto.   She has performed at numerous festivals including Ledbury Poetry Festival, Cheltenham, Brighton and at Glastonbury and recently went down a storm in the semi-final of the Radio 4 national poetry slam.

"Poetry Café means visitors to the gallery will really be able to feast on poetry, in a relaxed and informal environment" organiser Anna Saunders says. "The gigs will act as a warm up to the forthcoming Cheltenham Poetry Festival, and will offer a wide range of poetry for all tastes!"

Poetry Café takes place on the third Thursday of the month, Thursday 17 September, 15 October, 19 November and 17 December,  6.00 - 7.30 pm at Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum.
