This is a rich in colour and detailed reproduction of the old map of
Gloucestershire, compiled and drawn by John Speede around 1610.
At that
time in history, Bristol was part of Gloucestershire and the city plan
can be seen in the bottom right hand corner, with Gloucester occupying
the top left. As well as notes on each city, famous battles of the era
are clearly visible. On the right hand side there are a collection of
Coates of Arms of various dukes, earls and persons of importance during
the 17th century. A couple remain blank as these were paid for - a bit
like advertising really - so on this particular map not all the spaces
were sold!
