Tewkesbury Medieval Festival 2025
Saturday 12 - Sunday 13 July 2025
The Tewkesbury Medieval Festival has been the highlight of Tewkesbury’s summer since 1983. Now widely recognised as the largest free medieval gathering in Europe, it attracts re-enactors, traders, entertainers, and visitors from around the world.
The festival’s central feature is a spectacular re-enactment of the Battle of Tewkesbury, taking place on part of the original 1471 battlefield. Many participants, including wives and children, live as a medieval army in authentic encampments throughout the weekend, offering visitors a truly immersive experience.
The festival also showcases a range of period entertainment, including medieval music, dance, and drama. Fascinating characters from the past, such as surgeons, preachers, and even dragon keepers, make appearances to further bring history to life.
Families will enjoy the children’s activity area, with period-based arts and crafts sessions. An exhibition tent offers displays from organisations that specialise in different historical aspects. The bustling medieval market features everything from suits of armour and beautiful gowns to pots of herbs and bags of sweets.
The town itself gets into the spirit, with streets decorated with authentic medieval banners throughout the festival. Food and drink, including ale specially brewed for the event, are widely available. Best of all, despite its size and popularity, entry to the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is completely free, thanks to the hard work and dedication of its volunteer organisers, who are committed to keeping it that way.
