Saturday 15 & Sunday 15 June 2025
Introduction to Beekeeping at Westonbirt Arboretum
Discover the fascinating world of beekeeping with this one-day course at Westonbirt Arboretum, perfect for those considering keeping bees in their garden.
Led by experienced beekeeper Richard Rickitt, co-editor of Bee Craft magazine and author of Beekeeping for Gardeners (Bloomsbury), this course covers the essential knowledge needed to start beekeeping. Learn about the incredible lifecycle of the honey bee, their crucial role in pollination, and the fundamentals of maintaining a healthy hive.
Explore the different types of beehives available, along with the essential equipment and techniques required for successful beekeeping and honey harvesting. In the afternoon, visit the arboretum’s beehives and, weather permitting, handle the bees and try to spot the queen.
Whether you're looking to produce your own honey and wax, support pollinator conservation, or simply learn more about these remarkable insects, this informative and hands-on course is the perfect introduction. Richard Rickitt will also be available to offer further advice should you wish to set up your own hive.
