Critters Through History Workshop at Berkeley Castle offers a fascinating hands-on family activity during the summer holidays, with all workshops included in the standard admission ticket at no extra cost.
Taking place every Wednesday from 22 July to 26 August 2026, these interactive 30-minute workshops invite children and families to meet an amazing collection of real-life creatures, including snakes, rats and frogs, while exploring their surprising roles throughout history.
Visitors will discover how rats were once blamed for spreading the plague, learn about the magical powers people once believed frogs and snakes possessed, and uncover the myths, mysteries and superstitions that surrounded these remarkable animals.
Led by expert handlers, the workshops combine live animal encounters with fascinating historical stories, creating a fun and educational experience that brings history to life in an unforgettable way.
Perfect for curious minds and animal lovers of all ages, this engaging summer holiday activity offers the chance to get up close to some incredible creatures while learning about medieval medicine, folklore and the strange beliefs of the past.
Workshop times are 12.00pm, 1.00pm, 2.15pm and 3.30pm. All activities are included within standard admission to Berkeley Castle.
