REVIEW: Wychwood Festival 2014 & tickets for 2015
As the sun set over Cheltenham Racecourse, the final act, The Boomtown Rats took to the main stage at Wychwood. In his snake skin effect suit, Bob Geldof and his band treated us to a selection of great classics, which finished off the festival and left the crowd glowing and happy. Sleeping children were wheeled off to bed and the sea of picnic chairs and rugs slowly packed up. (Although the opportunity to carry on partying until the small hours was still available at the headphone disco).
The whole weekend had been a great event and it has to be stressed that this really is a festival for the whole family. The well thought out layout works well as groups of friends and families were able to enjoy the atmosphere from a central area with everything you need for a great day situated nearby.
The programme of music over the weekend began on Friday evening with the legendary Stranglers and continued with The Levellers, Reef, The Real Thing and Bad Manners, to name but a few, entertaining an appreciative audience. A highlight of the entertainment on offer to children was Justin Fletcher, aka Mr. Tumble. The CBeebies favourite is always a hit with both the children and the mums! Other evening entertainment gave the opportunity to enjoy a night of comedy and a pint of real ale with some great comedy acts, which included Gary Delaney, Gavin Webster and Jellybean Martinez.
A good selection of food and drink was on offer and the stalls gave the opportunity for some retail therapy.
