Treetop Walkway at Westonbirt gets support

Treetop Walkway at Westonbirt gets support

The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust pledges support for exciting new view of Westonbirt Arboretum.

The Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum are pleased to announce a £150,000 grant from The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust towards the construction of the new STIHL Treetop Walkway at the arboretum.

This new and exciting construction at the arboretum, part of Phase Two of the Westonbirt Project, has been supported by The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust to celebrate the historical Westonbirt
landscape whilst providing all ability access, in turn enabling and benefitting visitors.

Lorraine Jones, Fundraising Manager at the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum said:
“We are really pleased to have the support of The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust in what is a monumental project in the history of the arboretum. Their donation to the construction of the Treetop Walkway at Westonbirt has ensured that we can provide an all accessible view and experience of the wonderful landscape we have here at Westonbirt, as well as engaging our wide ranging audience with trees and how they live, through fun family interpretation”

Anna Jones, Trustee at The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust added:

“This is a really exciting project that will enhance the arboretum and add to the visitor attraction of this Grade 1 Registered Landscape. It will enable all visitors, whatever their ability, to capture the experience and magic of moving through the tree canopy and heighten their understanding of trees in their natural context.  It will also have wider educational, social and economic benefits for the County. The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust is very pleased to be associated with this project.”

Construction of the Treetop Walkway at Westonbirt is in progress and is due to open in 2016.

The Gloucestershire Environmental Trust provides grants from funds generated by the Landfill Communities Fund provided by Cory Environmental (Gloucestershire) Ltd, which owns and manages the waste management operations in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cirencester.
