'A New World' - Bespoke fine furniture making is alive and thriving!

Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design

Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design coming to Cheltenham this August.

Discover a world that you never knew existed and add a little individuality and uniqueness to your home this August!

Traditional bespoke fine furniture making is alive and thriving in the British Isles, a commission can be so much more than a visit to a high-street store.

Beyond our familiar high street brands there is another world where you and your needs are at the centre of everything!  Sound too good to be true?  This is the world of bespoke furniture, a place where you can have anything your heart desires!

While away a couple of hours at Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design and you will come to realise that there are a myriad of wonderfully talented craftsmen and women working quietly and expertly, often right under your nose, to produce exquisite work from the most beautiful timbers.

That’s all very well but it will cost a fortune you say?  Ok, there is no denying that some pieces are costly, a reflection of their complexity, precision and the years of experience that the craftsperson has garnered to be able to produce such fine work.  These pieces are often incredible though and there is certainly nothing to stop you admiring and appreciating such pieces and their quality which can be genuinely astounding!

However, take a closer look at the prices you are presented with in many shops and then look again at much of the work from small workshops and you may be surprised by what is possible, even on a relatively small budget.  Combine that with the understanding that a bespoke piece can be any size, colour, shape or style you wish and that you will engage with the actual craftsperson that makes it. Perhaps you’ll know exactly where the wood that is used grew and be able to influence subtle design features that will make the final piece perfect for you and suddenly that price could look like great value!

Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design has supported hundreds of small workshops from across the British Isles for twenty five years.  Its annual exhibition showcases around three hundred exhibits from over seventy workshops in the beautiful, neo-classical, Thirlestaine Long Gallery in Cheltenham at the heart of the stunning Cotswolds.  A visit makes for an inspiring and refreshing experience that will reassure you of this traditional craft’s health and possibly lead you to embrace a whole new world of shopping!
