Carols for Carers at Tewkesbury Abbey

Carols for Carers at Tewkesbury Abbey, supporting local charity Carers Gloucestershire.

Carers Gloucestershire will be hosting a festive Carol Concert in the wonderful surroundings of Tewkesbury Abbey. The concert will feature a choral extravaganza from local choirs Cheltenham Youth Choir, MidLife ChoirSis, A Choired Taste and Octavo directed by Rachel Bowen. All of which will be interspersed with, congregational choirs and festive readings.

The fundraising concert sponsored by the Tewkesbury Rotary Club, Howard Tenens and The Gloucester Purchasers, welcomes people from across Gloucestershire to join together for the evening to support local unpaid carers.  At the concert, Carers Gloucestershire will be joined by their President the Lord Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Dame Janet Trotter DBE, who will be presenting one of the readings for the evening.

Rachel Bowen is a local music teacher, working predominantly at Dean Close Preparatory School where she teaches music, singing and Early Years music. She formed the Cheltenham Youth Choir in 2010, which is open to children of all ages located in the Cheltenham and Gloucester area.  MidLife ChoirSis was formed by Rachel in October 2012 and has since grown to more than 80 members, whilst A Choired Taste is the most recently formed of Rachel’s choirs and includes a mix of staff from Cheltenham Festivals and HSBC Cheltenham. Octavo was formed in 2013, providing a creative outlet for its members, many of whom have performed in some of England’s finest choirs.

Andrew Turner from Tewkesbury Rotary Club commented, "We’re very pleased to be able to support the charity in sponsoring the Carol Concert at Tewkesbury Abbey and its broader role in our local community."

Tim Poole, Chief Executive of Carers Gloucestershire noted, “I’m incredibly grateful to Rachel Bowen for giving up her valuable time to put the programme together and the very generous sponsorship to make the event possible. It promises to be a wonderful evening in the beautiful surroundings of Tewkesbury Abbey. The concert will help us raise awareness of the charity and the challenges carers face daily, whilst raising essential funds to support local carers across the county.”

The concert will take place on Saturday 12th December at 6.30 pm, doors will open at Tewkesbury Abbey from 6 pm, mince pies and hot drinks will be served after the concert.

Tickets priced at £5 (free for under12s), are available to purchase from Carers Gloucestershire on their website www.carersgloucestershire.org.uk, or by calling 01452 872248. You can also purchase tickets from the Abbey Shop.
