Art exhibition at Chedworth Roman Villa

An exhibition inspired by Roman art, local nature and wildlife is being held at Chedworth Roman Villa featuring a range of art works from 25 artists between 9 September and 8 October.
This is the third year that National Trust is holding an art exhibition at Chedworth Roman Villa. In 2016 over 70 pieces were displayed from 20 different artists. This year the circle of artists has increased with new creators bringing in fresh pieces for show and sale.
Sigute Barniskyte-Kidd, who is curating the art exhibition on behalf of National Trust, says: ‘Chedworth Roman Villa offers a unique site to display and contemplate artworks. The combination of stunning landscape and Roman ruins with their history of craftsmanship provides a perfect back-drop to admire artistic creation. There will be lovely pieces to enjoy, most of them available to purchase for home and garden.’
Exhibits will reflect the Roman villa’s history of craftsmanship, its contemporary interpretation, local landscape, nature and wildlife.
Following the Roman tradition of mosaic craft there will be mosaics available to admire and purchase, made by local mosaicists, including Angela Williams and Lynda Knott, Jane Bracey and Yvette Green.
Lizzie White returns with sculptures of Helix Pomatia - Latin for Roman snails, which still live on site at Chedworth.
New artists this year include sculptors Malcolm West, Mike Savage, Kim Pethybridge, Jo Jones, Kay Singla, Ronnie Dongo, Sarah Scott and glass artists Louise and Colin Hawkins. Sue Day debuts with her hand woven tapestry of the villa’s iconic winter mosaic. Bailey Curtis adds her poetic felted pieces to villa’s exhibition for the first time as well.
The whole display is crowned by the impressive sculptural pieces of Ruth Moilliet, who is also new to the villa. Her giant plant buds made of metal sheets contain hundreds of colourful flowers, which delight audiences of all ages.
The exhibition will be held between 9 September and 8 October 2017, both indoors and outside. Normal opening times will apply.
