Hideout with the experts to experience winter wildlife this February half term at Slimbridge Wetland Centre.

Families can discover the UK’s greatest winter wildlife like never before this February half term by joining WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre’s The Big Hideout between Saturday 11 – Sunday 26 February.

At Slimbridge the bird hides have become hideouts, filled with bird spotting activities, migration games and binocular crafting - for all the family to enjoy. Experts on wetland nature will be on hand to help visitors discover many of the birds that flock to the centre from around the world in the colder months.

Families will be able to borrow binoculars and telescopes to see wildlife up close from the comfort of a bird hide from Saturday 11 – Sunday 26 February. Visitors should also be on the lookout for Slimbridge’s famous Bewick’s swans which have flown 2,500 miles from northern Russia to spend the winter at the wetland centre. Families can warm up with a hot chocolate and create their own Bewick’s bill pattern, each day 1.30-3.30pm and then stay and watch the Wild Bird Feed at 4pm from the Peng Observatory.

As well as The Big Hideout there’s lots of other wild and wonderful activities for the whole family to discover this winter such as Slimbridge’s Nature’s Patterns activity sheets, exploring the site through their family-friendly app ‘Wetland Heroes’, and going along to one of their daily talks on their marvellous mammals and awesome amphibians. Slimbridge’s newly developed Welly Boot Land will also be opening this February, so there is something for all the family to enjoy.

Fran Penny at WWT Slimbridge said
“Slimbridge is the perfect place to discover incredible winter wetland wildlife and it’s amazing what you can see when you hide in the right place. We’ve turned out bird hides into Hideouts this February to welcome families, and help them experience the joy of bird watching and soak up our wild winter wildlife. Take a peek at birdlife and enjoy the awe-inspiring spectacle of thousands of winter birds, or find patterns everywhere with Slimbridge’s new Nature’s Pattern activity and create your own nature pattern book. Whatever you choose to do, it’s a great way to discover something new, have fun and make memories.”

Families can share their adventures by using #WWTBigHideOut to show off their best photos and experiences.
