Panto Review of Aladdin at The Everyman Theatre Cheltenham 2024
Experience Aladdin at the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham – a magical pantomime packed with laughter, adventure, and family fun in Gloucestershire this Christmas!
Pantomime season is in full swing, and we had the absolute pleasure of experiencing Aladdin at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham. This year’s production is nothing short of spectacular, offering a perfect blend of family entertainment, cheeky humour, and jaw-dropping moments that make it a must-see in Gloucestershire this festive season.
The show is packed with laugh-out-loud moments, but Tweedy, as always, stole the spotlight. His green worm scene was an absolute highlight and had us laughing uncontrollably! Tweedy’s spontaneous ad-libs had both Widow Twankey and Aladdin breaking character on more than one occasion, proving why he’s such an icon of The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.
Speaking of Widow Twankey, Kevin Brewis delivered another unforgettable performance. The costumes were outrageously fabulous – one outfit more dazzling than the last – and the set design, a vibrant ‘Glos Vegas,’ was like making Cheltenham the 'Sin City' of Gloucestershire! The cheeky double entendres peppered throughout the show ensured plenty of laughs for the grown-ups too.
The musical numbers were another highlight, with Jasmine and Aladdin showcasing impressive vocal talents. Their voices were strong, clear, and genuinely enchanting – perfect for this magical tale. The magic carpet scene was breathtaking, with Aladdin ‘flying’ over the stage to the delight of everyone in the audience.
The big bouncy ball scene and Tweedy’s tea scene (complete with some audience water splashing!) were a hit with the kids, although don’t worry – it’s far from a full-on water park experience! The humour throughout is what makes this panto in Cheltenham so special – it’s as much fun for the big kids as it is for the little ones.
If you’re looking for festive fun and a guaranteed laugh this Christmas, Aladdin at the Everyman Theatre Cheltenham is an unmissable treat. It’s everything a pantomime should be – magical, hilarious, and packed with heart. Whether you’re in Gloucestershire or further afield, make this your family’s festive outing this year.
