Leading the month’s programme are a series of special events exploring Roman Britain and the enduring myth of Orpheus, alongside expert-led walking tours that bring the ancient town of Corinium to life beneath modern streets.

The museum’s February calendar is rounded out with free exhibitions by talented local artists and a lively programme of February Half Term activities, making it an ideal destination for families looking to combine learning and creativity.

Special Events at Corinium Museum - February

Project Orpheus Partnership Conference - Saturday 7 February, 10am to 4pm
This one-day conference brings together leading academics and researchers to explore Orpheus mosaics in Britain through archaeology, literature, and art.

Guest speakers include Professor Richard Miles, Professor Mark Horton, Professor Jenny Mann and Stephen R. Cosh, with talks ranging from new excavations to the literary legacy of the Orpheus myth. Tickets include refreshments, with free online viewing also available.

Walking Roman Cirencester - Friday 6 February and Saturday 28 February
Led by archaeologist Dr Alison Grierson-Brookes, these half-day walking tours explore Roman Cirencester, its town walls, and amphitheatre, followed by guided access to the museum’s award-winning Roman galleries. Numbers are limited, and booking is recommended.

Roman Cirencester Town Walk - Wednesday 18 February, 11am to 12.15pm
Join a member of the museum team for a guided walk through Cirencester, uncovering key Roman discoveries that reveal why Corinium was one of the wealthiest towns in Roman Britain.

February Exhibitions

Artsy Social Art Exhibition II - Until Sunday 8 February
This free community exhibition celebrates artwork by local people created through Artsy Social sessions led by Gloucestershire-based artist Michaela Norton.

Featuring portraits and landscapes in acrylic, the exhibition highlights creativity, confidence, and the joy of making art in a supportive environment.

Flora, Fauna and Fantasy - From 12 February to 15 March
This vibrant exhibition by local mixed media artist Alison Adams showcases botanical, animal, and fantastical works inspired by the natural world. Combining intuitive techniques with elements of chance, the exhibition blends realism with imagination and includes an opening event on 14 February.

February Half Term Events - 14 to 22 February

Families visiting during February Half Term can enjoy a programme of creative, hands-on workshops inspired by the museum’s collections.

Activities include fossil-inspired crafts, model mammoth building, Roman mosaic making, and the launch of the Cirencester Young Archaeologists Club for ages 8 to 16. All sessions are bookable in advance, with places limited.
