Museum of Gloucester

Located in the heart of Gloucester, the Museum of Gloucester houses a remarkable collection of nearly one million artifacts, making it internationally significant. From its Roman roots to its medieval heritage, the museum narrates the city's evolution through the ages.

Housed in a splendid Victorian edifice, the museum boasts a rich art collection featuring works by renowned artists such as Richard Wilson and Thomas Gainsborough. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits on the ground floor, including a Roman kitchen playhouse and a medieval street.

Highlights of the museum's archaeology collection include the world-famous Birdlip Mirror, Roman tombstones, and the oldest complete backgammon set, the Gloucester Tables Set. From dinosaurs to Celts, Romans to the Middle Ages, the museum chronicles Gloucester's diverse history through fossils, paintings, sculptures, and more.

With two exhibition spaces hosting vibrant displays, a café, and a shop offering refreshments and retail therapy, the Museum of Gloucester offers an enriching and immersive experience for visitors of all ages.

Museum of Gloucester - Disabled access

For paid exhibitions, the Museum of Gloucester offers a concessionary rate for disabled visitors, and complimentary tickets are provided for carers.

Additionally, all staff undergo disability awareness training to ensure a welcoming environment for all. In case of emergencies, the fire alarm system includes both sirens and lights for effective notification.
