New café at Batsford Arboretum open for business

Visitors to Batsford Arboretum near Moreton-in-Marsh can now enjoy breakfast, lunch or coffee in their new-look café following an extensive refurbishment this year.

The Garden Terrace Café, which sits within the main visitor centre at Batsford, has been fully refurbished to provide an extended space which has almost tripled the seating capacity, as well as a revamped kitchen and serving area.

Looking out over the plant centre and Evenlode Valley beyond, the café has stunning countryside views and modern styling including new tables and chairs as well as pendant lamps cascading from the ceiling bringing a much brighter, fresh feel.

Batsford’s Director of Operations, Stuart Priest said:
'We’re delighted with the café refurbishment, it’s been worth the wait! The additional space should help on busier days, particularly in the autumn.
'The café kitchen has had a complete overhaul and is now partly enclosed, with windows so you can still see the chefs, so the café is a little quieter too.'

The café has a refreshed menu with an expanded breakfast offering served from 9.30am to 11am and hot lunches - now including burgers - from midday to 2pm.

Light snacks and a wide range of cakes – freshly baked on site by a new in-house baker - are available throughout the day. The café is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm.

As part of the refurbishment project, the garden shop has also been extended to provide a new layout and space for larger product ranges.

The extension was designed by the visitor centre’s original architects - Cheltenham-based John Falconer Associates – and beautifully incorporates both the existing contemporary building and the original Victorian walled garden, which formed part of the original Batsford estate, with part of the wall running through the building into the café. The design both complements and respects the historic arboretum and the surrounding landscape and boasts several key environmental features, including an extensive use of FSC timber and sheep’s wool insulation in its construction, a ground source heat pump and rainwater harvesting capabilities.
