Electric bike hire from Hidcote Manor Garden

Hidcote Manor Gardens

For cyclists put off by steep hills, a National Trust property in the north of Gloucestershire has the answer.

Hidcote Manor Garden, near Chipping Campden, has brought in a fleet of electric bikes which can be hired to explore the country lanes and nearby places.

The bikes are electric assisted which means they still have to be pedalled. But, once a hill is reached, the electric motor kicks in which means cycling up a steep hill takes little more effort than along a level road.

“We’re at the top of a hill here so bike hire hasn’t been that popular,” explained Lisa Edinborough, Visitor Experience Manager for Hidcote.

“People realise that, once they had a good ride and are getting tired, they still have that last long hill to get back. But no more, with these bikes somewhere like Baker’s Hill seems like it has been flattened and it is so much easier to explore all the quiet places and wildlife haunts between here and Chipping Campden.”

There are now eight electric assisted bikes available to be hired at Hidcote.

Already they have proved popular with those who have tried them out.

“People come back thrilled with how much further they have been and how much less daunting the hills are as a result of the little electric motor,” added Lisa. “Hidcote is surrounded by some lovely quiet places and great traditional views across the countryside of Gloucestershire and into Warwickshire.”

The bikes are available for hire for £20 for two hours or £35 for a whole day.

More information on Hidcote Manor Garden is available on the website.
