Extreme Swimming Challenge in Cheltenham

Extreme Swimming Challenge in Cheltenham

Show your support for an amazing local sportsman.

An amazing local swimmer has taken on a challenge which very few people would consider attempting let alone embark upon to help raise funds for our nationally significant swimming facility in Cheltenham.
Cheltenham Vet Oliver Wilkinson is now on day 18 of his 30 day challenge to swim 200 lengths every day for 30 days. A total of 300km in Sandford Parks Lido. It is an enormous challenge and we want everyone to get behind him and show their support for two reasons, one being it’s an awesome physical challenge to actually swim that far in such a short period of time and secondly to help raise money for our lido.

The money he raises will be directed towards our next significant fundraising project which is to refurbish our male and female changing rooms. The charitable trust which operates the lido has spent over two million on the lido since the charity took over in 1996, but a large percentage of this money has been spent on preserving the pool structure, filtration and pipe circulation. We carried out initial improvements on our changing facilities back in 1998 by providing a heated room and locker provision. We now plan to significantly improve our changing room provision to ensure we meet the needs of our whole community specifically improving access for all and family provision.

Ollie is dedicating each daily swim to an inspiring individual who has had an impact on his life and sporting career. You can follow Ollie’s progress via his blog at http://olliechannelswim2009.blogspot.co.uk
There is a short video clip of one of his early swims at https://youtu.be/CHeDvv3rkdk

Please show your support to this amazing individual by either promoting his blog, his Justgiving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/30marathonswims30days or come along to the lido on one of his swims to show the world what you can achieve if you put your mind to it.

Ollie is starting to find the challenge very tough and any support will spur him on to achieve his goal of 30marathonswims30days.
