Fun Events at Out of the Hat
Out of the Hat, Tewkesbury’s heritage and visitor centre is entertaining children with some fantastically fun events this summer.
Join the Education Officer, Becky Davies, at Out of the Hat on Wednesday 13th August from 11.00am, for a wacky workshop all about pongey art! Use fragrant herbs and spices to create outrageous items that will smell for ages afterwards. Admission charge to the centre applies.
On Saturday 16th August, Tewkesbury gets a visit from the Tudors at the Old Baptist Chapel. We all know a little bit about Tudor times, like Henry VIII and his six wives, but how much more do we know? For a fascinating insight into ordinary tudor minds come along and meet some interesting characters. Meet Mistress Elenor the exotic trader of Eastern spices, see Beth the weaver spin her fleece and meet the apothecary with his unusual cures for your ailments – buttered spiders anyone? The event takes place from 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm. Ł3.50 a ticket with under 5s going free.
With the addition of a new garden at Out of the Hat, we are doing our best to encourage the wildlife in. Our craft workshop on 21st August is all about creepy crawlies, pretty flying things and insects that like to mess around in the dirt. Drop in between 11am – 4pm and be inspired! Admission charge to the centre applies.
Along with the Tudors, Tewkesbury was also home to some Romans and a workshop at the Old Baptist Chapel looks at their passion for mosaics. This fantastic workshop will have you inspired by colour, symbols and patterns as you design your very own mosaic coaster to take home! Ł5 per child (includes free entry to Out of the Hat).
