New boost to travel to top Gloucestershire visitor attraction
Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership and Community Connexions celebrate success of Slimbridge Shuttle bus
Gloucestershire Community Rail Partnership and WWT Slimbridge are celebrating the success of a new bus service, the Slimbridge Shuttle, which launched in May 2023 and is enabling many more visitors to experience the famous wetland centre without needing to travel by car.
The hourly service is running on Saturdays and Sundays throughout Summer 2023 and connects Cam, Dursley, Slimbridge with Cam & Dursley Station. The timetable coordinates with main line trains to and from Bristol, Cheltenham and Gloucester and beyond. The Slimbridge Shuttle has also been designed with visitors to the area in mind, and stops at Shepherd’s Patch on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, near the Tudor Arms pub, the Black Shed café, the Tudor Arms Caravan Park and WWT Slimbridge.
The service is operated by Community Connexions, a local bus company that provides dial-a-ride services and fixed bus routes across Gloucestershire. Chief Executive Paul Riddick is pleased with the the service has received:
“The reception from the local community has been fantastic. There are plenty of people using the service who wouldn’t otherwise be able to get around by public transport. There are lots of visitors using it to get to WWT Slimbridge, particularly young families without access to a car. It’s also helped the local community. A lady from Woodmancote uses the shuttle to do her shopping and go to church on a Sunday. She says she hasn’t been able to do that for a while, so it has given her some independence.”
