Roman Military Explored at Corinium Museum Evening Lecture
Military historian John Smith will inform and entertain during an Evening Lecture about Roman Military in Britain at Corinium Museum on Thursday 31 May, 7-8.30pm.
The lecture will explore archaeological evidence of Roman military equipment through re-enactment and how this translates into creating a picture of the Roman soldier.
John Smith has been involved in archaeology for 40 years and worked at two Roman Villas - Rockbourne, near Fordingbridge and Bignor in Sussex where he was Curator for 3 years. His special area is the Roman Army, particularly in the West Country. Thirty years ago he was one of the 'diggers' at Lake Farm, Wimborne - a Roman Legionary base.
The Corinium Museum tells the story of archaeology across the Cotswolds with an emphasis on discoveries from Roman Corinium. A vibrant temporary exhibition programme takes place throughout the year.
