The HandleBards return with hilarious, outdoor Shakespeare!
The world’s first cycling theatre company, The HandleBards, is making a much-awaited return to Painswick in June. The company's two troupes will be criss-crossing the country with new productions of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night (16th and 17th June) and Romeo and Juliet (27th June), stopping off at the glorious Rococo Garden en route. In usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos and a great deal of laughter.
"Uproariously funny" Sir Ian McKellen
The fit actors travel with their set, props and costumes in tow, and will set up on the Bowling Green right in the heart of the historic Garden. There they will present their own unique take on two of the Bard's best-known plays.
“The HandleBards’ performances are amongst the most popular events of our year" says Garden Director Dominic Hamilton. "They are funny, clever and charming and bring Shakespeare’s complex texts to life. We are lucky to have them back, and are really looking forward to three nights of superb comedy and drama.”
Each performance starts at 6.30pm, with gates opening at 5.30pm for picnics in the Garden. Guests are warmly invited to explore the stunning Garden prior to the performance. Well-behaved dogs are welcome and children under 16 go free, with a paying adult. Tickets cost £16 in advance/£18 on the night and are available from www.handlebards.com.
