Painswick Rococo Garden secures National Lottery support

This May, Painswick’s Rococo Garden received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £6,100 for an exciting heritage project, “Celebrating Painswick Rococo Garden.” Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on the history of the Gardens - in particular, Rococo art and sculpture.
The project will run from May until September 2019, enabling local young people and families to discover the meaning of the word Rococo and explore the history of Rococo art and sculpture through a programme of creative workshops, talks, and engaging activities. Volunteers at the Garden will receive specialist training in order to support the project and learn new skills in the process.
The Garden is unique in that it is the only surviving garden of the rococo period which is open to the public. The source for the discovery and subsequent restoration of this wonderful hidden valley in rural Gloucestershire is an extraordinarily detailed 18th century painting by local artist Thomas Robins.
We wish to share this historic information with visitors and help them re-discover the intriguing history behind the Garden and its unique design.
Commenting on the award, Garden Director Dominic Hamilton said: “We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players and are confident the project will support young people and families in discovering more about the intriguing story of this fascinating and beautiful place.”
Painswick Rococo Garden is situated just outside the beautiful Cotswold village of Painswick and is open daily from 10.30am - 5pm.
