The Red Arrows only date this summer with RIAT 2008
A tour of the US and Canada in June means that the legendary Red Arrows will be making only one appearance in the Cotswolds this summer.
The RAF’s aerobatic team will be taking part in the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford on July 12 and July 13 as part of official celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the Royal Air Force.
The Reds will be joined by aircraft from the RAF’s past, present and future to tell the story of the world’s oldest air force. Spectators will be able to enjoy a dramatic World War One dogfight, historic Battle of Britain fighters and bombers as well as fast jets from the 1950s to the present day. Among the highlights will be an explosive role demonstration showing the Royal Air Force in action.
Air Tattoo spokesman Richard Arquati said he was delighted that the Reds would be back from their North American tour in time for the Air Tattoo. “The Red Arrows are one of the most popular acts we have displaying over the weekend, especially with children. And there is always the chance of bumping into the pilots on the public showground over the weekend. It’s amazing the number of people I meet who say that their passion for aviation was sparked from first seeing the Red Arrows in action. They are a wonderful illustration of the professionalism and dynamism of the Royal Air Force.”
Joining the Reds in the air will be six other international display teams from around the world, including Brazil, Chile and Portugal. Among the other highlights at this summer’s airshow are the European flying display debut of the US Air Force’s latest jet fighter – the F-22A - and the Pakistan Navy’s first appearance at the Air Tattoo.
The Royal International Air Tattoo is staged annually in support of the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust.
