Taurus Crafts, Severnside Skills

Taurus Crafts is more than just a visitor centre. Taurus Crafts has long been known for providing work and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and autism that allow individuals to develop new skills and build self-confidence, which are core values of the Camphill Village Trust which they are a part of.
Taurus Crafts are now expanding its services by introducing Severnside Skills, which will provide educational opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and other disabilities that enable them to gain the work experience and trade-specific vocational training required to prepare them for work.
“We understand the personal barriers people with a learning disability face in working and the lack of appropriate support to help them work towards this goal. We also know that people with additional support needs aspire to work and get paid, but sadly, only around 6% of adults with learning disabilities and autism have paid work” Keily Elvin, Vocational Learning and Development Manager.
In order to ensure learners' success, Severnside Skills not only taps into the facilities that Taurus Crafts has but will also use the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance's Unit Award Scheme (UAS).
The core training is focused on the main employment opportunities in thriving hospitality and tourism hot spots such as the Forest of Dean, which is retail and catering. Helping to piece together their own future the team feaures experienced qualified health and social care practitioners, with our Lead Education Coordinator being a trained A1 assessor, holding a level three award in Education and Training.
Taurus Crafts is hosting an open day on Friday 10th June for Severnside Skills, from 11am until 2pm. Where you can discover all that we have on offer and meet the team who are there to help piece together the next steps.
