Festival of Archaeology at Corinium Museum

Festival of Archaeology

Corinium Museum is celebrating archaeology and creativity through a series of events as part of the CBA national Festival of Archaeology, which runs from 15 to 30 July.

With workshops for children on prehistoric printing and mosaic making, hands-on activities in the museum galleries, walks that explore Cirencester’s Roman and Medieval past, a tour of the museum’s substantial stores and an opportunity to watch the Corinium’s stunning mosaics and stonework being cleaned, there should be something for everyone to enjoy during the festival.

There is a wealth of beautifully crafted Samian Ware pottery on display in the museum’s galleries, but how did it arrive in Roman Corinium from Gaul? Dr Graham J. Barton will explore this in his festival talk, From Gaulish Kiln to Corinium Ditch, on Thursday 20 July, 7- 8.30pm.

Emma Stuart, Director of the Corinium Museum, said: “The Festival of Archaeology is a wonderful way for us to celebrate and share the history of the Cotswolds. A walk through our galleries, which display ancient artefacts, connects visitors to the ancient past and our exciting programme of talks and workshops offer people the chance to meet the ‘experts’ and discover more about archaeology.”
