Eastgate Chamber

Roman and medieval gate-towers and moat in underground exhibition chamber in the heart of the city of Gloucester.

Located on Eastgate Street, this underground chamber unveils the remnants of Gloucester's ancient city defenses and the East gate, dating back to its establishment as a Roman settlement around AD 68. The site features Roman artifacts, the foundation of a 13th-century tower, and the Tudor 'horse-pool,' where wagons and livestock were cleansed before market.

Tours can be arranged through the Museum of Gloucester.
