A Quirky Cotswold Challenge with Historic Roots
The Tetbury Woolsack Races are one of the Cotswolds’ most unique and entertaining events, held annually on the late May Bank Holiday. This quirky competition sees competitors race up and down the steep Gumstool Hill carrying heavy woolsacks – a nod to Tetbury’s historic role in the wool trade.
Both individuals and teams take part, with junior and adult races drawing big crowds to the town centre. The high-energy atmosphere is fuelled by cheering spectators, live commentary, and a brilliant community spirit that makes this event a highlight of the Gloucestershire calendar.
