New arrival at Cotswold Falconry Centre

Cotswold Falconry Centre welcomes new arrival: Meet Monty, the Milky Eagle Owl

As spring breathes new life into the countryside, the Cotswold Falconry Centre is delighted to announce the arrival of Monty, a precious addition to their feathered family. Monty, a Milky Eagle Owl, also known as a Verreaux's or Giant Eagle Owl, joins the Centre's diverse collection of birds of prey.

Milky Eagle Owls typically rear two chicks in the wild, but only one usually survives as the larger chick often dominates the nest. To ensure the well-being of both chicks, Monty has been carefully removed from the nest to receive individual care and attention.

Currently undergoing hand-raising and imprinting, Monty is on the path to becoming a confident and comfortable ambassador for the centre. His integration into displays or Owl Experiences will be determined after he is given the opportunity to acclimate to his surroundings and form a bond with the team.

As the largest owl species in Africa, Monty is sure to captivate visitors with his impressive size and unique features. With distinctive pink eyelids and a temporary "egg tooth" visible on the tip of his beak, Monty promises to be a fascinating addition to the centre's flying team.

"We are thrilled to welcome Monty to our family and look forward to introducing him to our visitors," said Mark Dalton, owner of the Cotswold Falconry Centre. "His presence will not only enrich our displays but also contribute to our ongoing conservation efforts and educational programs."

Stay tuned for updates on Monty's progress and future appearances at the Cotswold Falconry Centre.
