September is a big month. The kids go back to school, you realise Summer is edging away, autumn is around the corner, and Christmas isn't a million miles away!
Well, Gloucestershire has some exciting events to help entertain you over the next few weeks. This Saturday you can discover and explore the restoration of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canal across three locations. See the restoration of Over Basin, House Lock and Ell Brook Aqueduct and the stretches of adjoining Canal. There’s lots of activities including mini beer festival, children’s fun and lots more.
There's something magical in the Forest of Dean too on the 5th & 6th September, when fairies come to life at Clearwell Caves – a dream weekend for the girls, but there's something for the boys when Fireman Sam and friends visit the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway in the last weekend of the month (26th & 27th).
Over at Kemble Airfield the 21st Didmarton Bluegrass Festival is taking place (4th – 6th) with its unique music with top US band 'Mountain Heart' headlining. Take your tent and settle down into a strumming good weekend of music and lots more!
On 19th & 20th September, Kemble also hosts the Battle of Britain Weekend, with fun in the skies and on the ground and is an ideal family day experience, with iconic planes including Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster all displaying.
On Saturday 12th, come and see the future of Stagecoach buses and relive the past with many old and new buses operating in Cheltenham. Buy a ticket for just £5.50 and travel on any bus for the whole day anywhere in Cheltenham.
Last year Explore Gloucestershire had a great time watching deerhounds racing at the Nation Trust’s Lodge Park. This year (Sunday 13th) we'll be going again and taking a picnic too. It's a hugely enjoyable and relaxing day out in the Cotswolds for all ages.
September's competition has some great prizes. First off, there's the chance to win a fabulous 3 course table d’hote menu, meal for two at the Barcelo Cheltenham Park Hotel.
