Kemble Airport under attack for Kemble Air Day 2008

Kemble Air Day 2008

Latest information on Kemble Air Day 2008, released by Kemble Airport

Kemble Airport is set to come under attack from the Royal Air Force on Fathers’ Day, Sunday, 15 June and the public is invited to watch.

The latest State-of-the-art Tornado and Typhoon fighter jets of the Royal Air Force will be staging a simulated mock attack during this year’s Kemble Air Day 2008. It will form part of the RAF’s showcase display of Operational Air Power. Full details are still to be confirmed, but part of the scenario is likely to involve troops being landed by helicopter and fighters intercepting enemy bombers – all taking place right in front of the public.

The display will build on last year’s role demonstration and seek to highlight the RAF’s capability in an operational environment and give the general public an insight into what the pilots of today’s RAF are doing on a daily basis in the current hotspots around the world.

Kemble is one of just eight UK venues chosen to host this display of the RAF’s capabilities. "This is a major vote of confidence in Kemble Air Day 2008,” said organiser Glen Moreman. “Last year we were one of the first venues to host a similar display – and it was stunning. Kemble is smaller than many airfields, so members of the public get to see everything at close quarters. There will be plenty of pyrotechnics, smoke and bangs; all guaranteed to impress.”

Kemble Air Day 2008 will be celebrating the RAF’s 90th anniversary with some special flypasts and will also raise a glass to Kemble Airport’s 70th birthday. The hunt is already on for aircraft that were once a familiar sight over the Cotswolds.

Other programme details have yet to be confirmed, but organisers are working hard to put together another spectacular show and once again ensure the Kemble Air Day 2008 is a great day out for all the family.

Tickets for Kemble Air Day 2008 will be on sale on 1st March from www.kembleairday.com and from local Tourist Information Centres.

Kemble Air Day 2008
is held at Kemble Airport is on the A429 half way between Cirencester and Malmesbury.
