October Half Term Fun at Birdland in the Cotswolds

Celebrate ‘Trick or Tweet’ Week at Birdland – A Spooky Day Out in the Cotswolds this October Half Term
Birdland Park and Gardens, one of the top family attractions in the Cotswolds, is delighted to announce the return of its much-loved ‘Trick or Tweet’ Week. Running from Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November 2024, this event promises to be one of the standout Halloween events in Gloucestershire, offering plenty of things to do in the Cotswolds this October Half Term.
A Spooky Adventure for the Whole Family
On arrival, visitors will receive a special ‘Trick or Tweet’ map, leading them on an educational and exciting journey around the park. Hidden throughout Birdland are 8 posters, each containing a letter. Families can solve the mystery by collecting all the letters to crack the secret word and claim a prize! This interactive challenge is a fantastic way for children to enjoy their visit while exploring Birdland’s beautiful surroundings.
Daily Bird Talks and Pumpkin Foraging Fun
During ‘Trick or Tweet’ Week, Birdland will host a series of daily talks, showcasing some of Bourton-on-the-Water’s most intelligent birds. As part of the event, Birdland’s keepers will hide a selection of creepy crawlies inside pumpkins, challenging the birds to use their natural instincts and skills to forage for food.
Birds taking part in the pumpkin foraging include:
- Cassowaries, one of the largest birds on the planet.
- The intelligent Kiwi parrot, the Kea.
- Hornbills, using their powerful beaks to break into the pumpkins.
- The clever bird of prey, the Striated Caracara.
Head Keeper Alistair Keen said, “Environmental enrichment is essential for our birds, and activities like pumpkin foraging encourage them to use their natural behaviours. The birds will need to figure out how to access the food, just as they would in the wild when foraging in hollow logs or stumps.”

Bird Myths and Legends
Visitors can also uncover the fascinating myths and legends associated with different birds. Learn why owls are considered so wise, where the phoenix legend originated, and discover the bird calls that the Romans believed predicted imminent death.
An Unforgettable Day Out in the Cotswolds For families seeking days out in the Cotswolds this October Half Term, Birdland’s ‘Trick or Tweet’ Week offers a fun-filled and educational adventure. With over 500 birds, including parrots, cassowaries, and England’s only breeding colony of king penguins, Birdland is a must-visit attraction.
