Christmas at Newly Reimagined Dr. Foster in Gloucester Docks
A Whole Host of Seasonal Offerings for the Newly Reimagined Dr. Foster
Based in the heart of Gloucester Docks, the newly reimagined waterside retreat, Dr. Foster, introduces exciting new additions this autumn. After a successful reopening earlier this summer, featuring a complete design overhaul by renowned restaurant group ART HOSPITALITY (formerly A Rule of Tum), the launch of a new menu and special themed nights add even more appeal to Gloucester’s newest gastro pub.
A brand-new menu brings a selection of warming dishes, perfect for cosy autumn days. Highlights include steak pie and bangers and mash, crafted from the finest local ingredients. Notably, Dr. Foster’s Sunday roast selection offers Rare Roast Top Rump, Rare Breed Pork Belly, Slow Roasted Lamb, Bertha Roasted Courgette Wellington, and a Lil’ Roast for children. Served with indulgent sides, this roast line-up offers something for everyone to enjoy on a quintessential autumnal Sunday.
Dr. Foster’s culinary vision is led by Executive Chef Callum McDonald, who brings extensive experience from working alongside Michelin-starred chefs across the UK. McDonald joined ART HOSPITALITY at the award-winning The Bookshop in Hereford before taking the helm at Dr. Foster, ensuring a menu brimming with rich, locally sourced flavours.
Newly launched Butcher’s Dock Steak Nights take place every Thursday from 6pm, featuring an 8oz Butcher’s choice steak, pub chips, and a choice of sauce for just £15. The locally sourced, prime cut steak is hand-selected weekly by trusted butcher Heggie’s to promote a no-waste policy while offering exceptional quality meat cooked over coals.
On Wednesdays, Tap Takeovers bring a weekly spotlight on local breweries, with different breweries providing talks and showcasing hand-selected beers and ales at £3 per pint. For diners, a special Pie and Pint deal is available for £15, adding a comforting winter warmer. Breweries participating include Wye Valley, Stroud Brewery, and Gloucester Brewery.
Other upcoming events include the monthly Big Pub Quiz, scheduled at 7pm on 22nd October, 19th November, and 17th December. “Trivia-lovers can gather at Dr. Foster for the monthly quiz, enjoy good food, and pints with friends. Entry is £2 per person, with teams of two to eight people competing for a range of prizes, including Dr. Foster vouchers.”
Live music enthusiasts can also enjoy performances every other Friday in the ground floor bar, featuring popular local bands and singers from 9-10.30pm, starting on 18th October.
With the festive season approaching, it’s an ideal time to plan Christmas gatherings at Dr. Foster. The Christmas menu, available from 29th November, offers two courses at £29.50 per person and three courses at £34.50 per person, with classic mains like Free-Range Turkey, Slow Braised Hereford Beef, Salt Shetland Cod, and a vegetarian Roast Celeriac, Wild Mushroom & Leek Wellington.
Dr. Foster also offers a private dining space, perfect for office parties or family celebrations. A hot festive buffet, priced from £18.50 per person, includes seasonal warm dishes such as sage and pork sausage rolls, truffle macaroni cheese with a herb crumb, and mince pie brownies.
