Wychwood Launches the First Literature Festival for Children
Wychwood 2009 launches the world's first Childrens's Literature Festival within a family music festival.

Wychwood Festival has today cemented its position as the most innovative family-focussed festival with the launch of the very first Childrenıs Literary Festival to be staged onsite across the weekend. Set up in collaboration with the University of Worcester, and with the support of nationwide book retailer Borders, the inaugural Childrenıs Literary Festival will set new standards in child orientated entertainment at a music festival in the UK. A line-up of best-selling childrenıs writers, illustrators, storytellers and poets will lead readings, workshops and sign copies of their latest titles across the weekend of 29 -31 May 2009 at Cheltenham Racecourse.
The full line-up includes 'Eddie Dickens Trilogyı author Phillip Ardagh, Jeremy Strong, Karen Wallace, Ulf Stark, Heather Dyer, Kristina Stephenson, The Adventures of Jake writer and illustrator Annette & Nick Butterworth, Hannah Shaw, Cat Weatherill, Ruth Symes, Siobhan Parkinson, Hilda Offen, and John Sampson. Last but by no mean least appearing on Sunday 31 May will be Carol Ann Duffy CBE who has just been confirmed as the new Poet Laureate replacing Andrew Motion and making history as the first ever female Poet Laureate. The literary festival line-up has been curated by Wychwoodıs Festival Director Graeme Merrifield with the help and expertise of the Professor of International Childrenıs Literature at the University of Worcester, Jean Webb: "The childrenıs authors at Wychwood represent the newest, most exciting, award winning and established creators of fiction from across Europe, for children at the present time. They write fantasy, magic, 'blow your mindı stories."
Regularly making Wychwood a funnier place, Mundo Jazz have once again been asked to curate this yearıs Comedy stage, in association with eFestivals.co.uk. Providing the laughs for 2009 will be Sol Bernstein, 'Grumpy Old Manı and BBC Radio 4 presenter Arthur Smith, Phil James, Gareth Jones, Matt Barnard, Stuart Goldsmith and Daniel Bland.
