WWT Slimbridge family and geese

Gloucestershire families looking for some fun with a difference this summer can head to Slimbridge Wetland Centre to experience the wetland centre’s eight new immersive exhibits and summer activities.

Throughout the summer holidays - until 4 September, Slimbridge are running a host of family fun activities which are included in the entry to the wetland paradise.

There is something for everyone with their summer highlights including; a Summer Science Show at 11am in the new Living Wetland Theatre - visitors can learn more about wetland habitats and even make their own water filtration system. Between 11am-12.30pm become explorers at the Arctic Adventure and complete analysis of poo samples or even weigh and measure a model swan. At 12 noon feed the world’s rarest goose, the nene, at Mission Possible in the Hawaiian landscape. Between 2-3pm delve below the surface at Pond Dipping - searching for bloodworms, sticklebacks, damselfly nymphs and more! Or visitors can stimulate their senses with Slimbridge’s Wetlands Interactive Sandbox, between 3.30pm-4.15pm. The iSandbox uses augmented reality to take a traditional sandpit to magical new proportions.

In addition to these summertime activities, Slimbridge run daily otter and amphibian talks as well as their popular Wonder of Wetlands bird demonstrations in the Living Wetland Theatre, where visitors can watch birds including pelicans, crowned cranes and magpie geese fly overhead.

If that’s not enough to tempt you, Slimbridge has its popular Welly Boot Land for little ones, Summer Walkway to explore and their free app, Wetland Heroes, where you can take on fun challenges and go on fact finding missions with the whole family. At an additional charge visitors can hire a canoe and paddle along Slimbridge’s 1KM trail or even climb aboard an accessible Wild Safari to adventure out across the reserve, looking for summer wildlife.
