Journey to Planet Mars at Gloucester Cathedral this October
This autumn, Gloucester Cathedral will be transformed into a celestial wonderland with a series of spectacular events celebrating both the Red Planet and the timeless allure of Gustav Holst's music. From the historic performance of Holst’s The Planets Suite to the immersive art installation Mars: War & Peace by Luke Jerram, the Cathedral invites visitors to explore the mysteries of Mars and the beauty of classical music.

Holst’s Planet Suite Under Mars: War and Peace
Saturday 12 October 2024
Kick off the season with a special performance of Gustav Holst’s The Planets Suite, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Cheltenham-born composer. This concert, performed by the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Gloucester Cathedral’s Director of Music, Adrian Partington, will be set against the stunning backdrop of Jerram’s Mars: War & Peace installation. This exclusive concert will be a dramatic and unique start to the exhibition, with all proceeds supporting the Cathedral’s In Tune Organ & Music campaign. VIP tickets are also available for an enhanced experience.
Mars Family Quest

Families are invited to embark on a space-themed adventure with the Mars Family Quest. This engaging and educational journey through the Cathedral offers opportunities for discovery and learning, ensuring fun for participants of all ages.
Sunset Yoga Under Mars
Wednesday 16 & 23 October 2024
Experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to practice yoga under the spectacular Red Planet at sunset. Join Christian Yoga practitioner Lucy for a gentle yoga session amidst the stunning backdrop of Mars: War & Peace. Participants can bring their own mats or borrow one, and the session is designed for adults with additional yoga teachers available to assist. Please note, this event is not suitable for children.
Sunrise Yoga Under Mars

Start your day with a unique yoga experience under the Red Planet at sunrise. Join Christian Yoga practitioner Lucy for a gentle session in the magnificent setting of Gloucester Cathedral. Mats can be brought from home or borrowed on-site, and additional yoga teachers will be present to assist. This event is designed for adults.
Organ Prom Under Mars
Wednesday 16 October 2024
Enjoy an evening of organ music at Gloucester Cathedral with an Organ Prom featuring performances by Cathedral organists Jonathan Hope and Adrian Partington. Set in the magnificent Cathedral, this relaxed concert invites attendees to bring their own chair or blanket and immerse themselves in the music.
Mars: War & Peace Night
19, 25, 26, 30, 31 October and 1 & 2 November
6pm - 9pm
Experience the atmospheric evening viewings of Mars: War & Peace as the Red Planet comes to life in the dark. The Monk’s Hut will offer hot drinks and tasty treats throughout the evening, and the Cathedral Gift Shop will be open for mementos and Christmas shopping.
