Liza Goddard stars in Kay Mellor’s romantic comedy.
A PASSIONATE WOMAN
Liza Goddard (Bergerac, Yes Honestly) plays Betty, a passionate, doting Mum who finds it hard to accept that her son is leaving home to get married.
On the morning of her son’s wedding, Betty retreats to her attic where she relives her long-lost youth and the love affair she had in the 1960s. Surrounded by her memories and ghosts from her past, Betty finds herself torn between a husband she never loved, a son about to leave and the man she shared a passionate affair with.
Kay Mellor’s (In The Club, Fat Friends; Band of Gold; The Syndicate) romantic comedy opens at the Everyman Theatre, prior to a national tour to Exeter, Malvern, Guildford, Sheffield, Northampton and Leeds.
Paul Milton, the Everyman’s Creative Director, directs this production “A Passionate Woman is a real feel-good play. It has a Shirley Valentine flavour to it: lots of romance, comedy and charm. It’s set in the present day, but has flashbacks to the 1960s. The writer, Kay Mellor, is well-known to television audiences – she wrote The Syndicate, Band of Gold and In The Club. The play was a West End hit in the 1990s and was televised in 2010, when it starred Sue Johnston and Billie Piper. It’s the perfect play for a good night out!”
This production is sponsored by Investec Wealth & Investment. They have had an office in Cheltenham for over 40 years, managing money on behalf of private clients, charities, trusts and pensions and providing a bespoke and integrated financial planning and investment management service. This is the first time they have sponsored a show at the Everyman Theatre and Everyman Chief Executive Geoffrey Rowe commented “We’re delighted to welcome Investec Wealth & Investment on board as show sponsors. This is an excellent production which will tour the country after leaving the Everyman and we hope this is the start of many future collaborations with them.”
Peter Horton, Head of the Cheltenham Investec office said “Our Cheltenham office has a long history of supporting the arts in and around the town but this is the first time we have sponsored a show at the Everyman Theatre. We are delighted to be sponsoring this production and look forward to building on our existing relationship as sponsors of the theatre.”
